Five Things That Save Me Time, Money and Stress Travelling

Travelling is something that you figure out on your own, really. Everybody has a different way of being organised and getting things done, and because of that, it’s usually down to you to go on your big adventures and see what works.

The flight's are booked. The hotel is reserved. You're on your way.. But how do you stop pre-holiday stress ruining your vacation? Easy! Here are 5 QUICK tips that have revolutionised how I travel! | Five Things That Save Me Time, Money & Stress Travelling

Over the past year, I’ve worked myself into a bit of a routine in terms of what I do before, and on a trip, so I thought I’d make a list of 5 things that have made travelling not just easier, but a lot less stressful and a lot more enjoyable than ever before!

GOING DIGITAL

I used to be a bit of a technophobe, sure that if I relied solely on eTickets instead of regular printed boarding passes, they’d disappear before my eyes and I’d be left with nothing to get me on the plane!

Obviously, that hasn’t happened, and the eTickets have not only saved time, stress and worry, but they’ve saved me having to carry passes pressed close to my chest at risk of losing them. Now, they’re on my phone – which is always on my person and automatically appears on my home screen the day of any flight, so I can swipe into the pass without even having to unlock it!

Between you and me, I always screenshot the e-mails that show booking and flight confirmations too, just in case, if anything happens I have photographs in my camera roll that prove I’ve actually purchased the flight I’m boarding. That one’s not necessary but it’s something that gives me peace of mind!

TRAVEL DOCUMENTS WALLET

Another thing that gives me peace of mind is my trusty documents wallet. While I’m buying things for the holiday – flights, insurance, hotel confirmations, excursions – I’ll print out the final invoice as I’m going along and store them in a plastic documents wallet that I bring on the trip with me. That way I know that if I need anything, I can access my documents in the front pocket of my carry on.

A lot of hotels/excursions ask for booking confirmations, so providing them with a paper copy is great for their records, and will save you time trying to show them your huge confirmation on a tiny phone screen! (With eTickets you’re given a QR code that can easily be scanned – but with things like flight confirmations, they preferably want an A4 sheet that they can look over!)

COMPARISON SITES

When purchasing for a trip, I can’t recommend using comparison sites enough! Going through sites like Trivago, Kayak and Sky Scanner will make sure you’re getting the best prices available. Make sure to check out my guide on getting cheap flights, if you’re looking for extra tips and tricks to add to your searches!

Also, check sites like Groupon (with a bit of vigilance… I once purchased a 3 day trip to Iceland and they tried to make me fly at hours that were unsociable to the degree (like 1 a.m. with a 3-hour layover in Copenhagen) that I was only spending a day and a half there in total!) to see if you can grab any cheaper alternative tickets or excursions at a discounted rate!

TRAVEL DATA

In England, I’m with a mobile network called Three. Three offer a deal to their customers called ‘Feel at Home’ which guarantees that you can use your phone in the same way (with the same text/data/call allowance) you do in your home country, in a list of verified locations (you can see the list of countries here).

My contract, one that I compared high and low before buying – gives me unlimited data, meaning that I don’t have to worry about running out of internet whether I’m lost in the countryside of England or in the streets of Rome!

This has been an absolute life saver, as you can imagine! It meant that wherever I was, I had my phone in my pocket that could guide me to my next location, or even back to my hotel if I was lost.

REVOLUT

The amount of times I’ve raved about Revolut is getting a little ridiculous, but I honestly can’t stop myself. If I had to point at something that has changed how I travel the most, it HAS to be Revolut. I can’t stress to you how much time I used to take exchanging money, then trying to figure out what each coin meant and using them correctly before bringing them home to re-convert them after a holiday.

I’d usually end up spending them JUST to avoid having to bring them home and dealing with a currency that was borderline useless to me! Until.. Revolut stepped into my life. I could rave about the brilliance of it all day, but honestly, I can’t recommend that you just check out their site for all the information on their absolutely brilliant cards. Click through right here.

  • I always screenshot online confirmations too – and I have not one, but two travel document wallets – one in my hold luggage, one in my hand luggage. Yep, I’m a super paranoid traveller! And re: travel data, I’m currently with EE, counting down the days til June when I can move to Three, their feel at home plan is a fantastic concept!

    • Having two document wallets totally makes sense! I love the feel at home feature, it’s so useful! And they’re adding new countries to it constantly which is always brilliant!

Thanks for the lovely comment, I hope you have a wonderful Tuesday!

  • I love this tips! Most of them I’m already following while go back and forth between countries and others I will defiantly start to follow. I have heard amazing things about three’s travel data and I have to say being on O2 they are pretty awesome when it comes to it too. I pay £1.90 per day using my phone while abroad and as my trips never are longer than a week I am loving not having to struggle with having data.

    • That’s a good data plan, too! Nowadays you can really secure a great plan if you’re on the lookout – it’s so much better than years ago when you had little to no plans available and had to pay an arm and a leg if you needed to use your phone while out the country!

Thank-you for the lovely compliment, I hope you have a wonderful Wednesday!

  • Angela Pauly

Thanks for the tip about Revolut! I’m looking into it right now! I’m bitten by the travel bug as well!
