The Wanderlust Guide to Corralejo, Fuerteventura

The town of Corralejo, found on the North point of Fuerteventura, is the most popular on the entire island. Boasting dramatic landscapes from desert dunes to clear blue shores and volcanic beaches, it’s no wonder why the town is so popular among tourists and locals alike. Spending a long weekend there this March (at the sweet price of £65 return flights! Find out how to grab cheap flights like these here) Scott and I swapped the city breaks for some time relaxing on the beach.

Already itching to return, I thought that I’d put our trip to good use and document some beautiful places on the island that I can’t recommend you visit enough!

CONICO ICE CREAM

One store that I HAVE to recommend is Conico Ice Cream. Located on the main shopping street in Corralejo, Conico offers an incredible selection of delicious ice creams – and all, in fact, are vegan! They’re non-diary alternatives to ice cream that I can hand on my heart say you couldn’t taste the difference with! If it weren’t for the fact that Scott and I only tried our first tubs of Conico’s ice cream on the final day, I can definitely say that we would’ve been regulars because not only is the ice cream really well priced (at €4 for the biggest tub they offered!) but it’s absolutely delicious, too!

LA CREMERIA

This was quite the find for Scott and I, as we had no idea that we were about to try the best ice cream in Corralejo when we approached the store of La Cremeria! Produced locally, the ice cream is only available at one branch and at €3 for a big three scoop cone, it’s definitely a steal for such a title! I can’t recommend their Kinder flavour enough (though maybe that’s because I’m a bit of a Kinder junkie!) – when visiting the island, make sure this place is on your go-to list!

WAIKIKI BEACH BAR

Waikiki was hands down one of the best places we visited, full stop. Sitting on the beach, watching the waves roll in with a Long Island in hand – it was honestly bliss. Waikiki serves food, as well, offering choices of freshly caught seafood, locally produced vegetarian dishes and more. Open till late, also, you’ll find it easy to understand why their beach terrace is such a hit with locals and tourists being able to sit on the beach while enjoying good food and even better company!

Also, during festival seasons, fireworks are launched from the North Beach of Corralejo – and the Waikiki Beach Bar is a great vantage point to enjoy the views from!

THE LOCAL BEACHES

Corralejo has easy access to multiple beaches around the town, so beach-hopping can be one of the great ways to enjoy your time in the town! While exploring, you’ll almost always be able to find another beach to head to, giving you gorgeous views of the other Canary Islands, and a wonderful selection of nearby restaurants to enjoy some great food (can you see a theme here?)

LOS LOBOS

Speaking of the other Canary Islands, if you’re looking to do some exploring – be sure to snag a boat trip to Los Lobos! At €15 return per person, you can spend the entire day exploring the beautiful island, which is only a 20-minute boat ride from Corralejo’s harbour.

Be sure to eat at the only restaurant on the island, sunbathe on the beautiful beaches and explore the island’s nature preserve, spotting as many rare birds as you can under the rising sun. The island’s main beach, Playa de la Concha, is actually known for its pristinely clear waters. So be sure to get some gorgeous pictures lounging near the idyllic water!

EL CAMPANARIO SUNDAY MARKET

If you’re looking to swap things out from a Sunday on the beach to a vibrant market, then El Campanario is definitely the place to go! Recommended to Scott and I from a local in the town, the market – taking place in the shopping square of El Campanario, offers stall after stall of beautifully made local products. Whether you’re after authentic island jewellery or a beautiful knick knack to bring home, you’ll be sure to find it in the Sunday market at El Campanario!

CORRALEJO NATIONAL PARK

Amazing food, brilliant experiences and gorgeous places to see! | Wanderlust Guide to Corralejo
Enjoy the biggest dunes across the entirety of The Canary Islands at Corralejo’s National Park. Recommended by almost anyone who visits, the national park is sure to offer you sights that you won’t be able to find elsewhere on the island. Swapping the bustling town of Corralejo for a gorgeous desert landscape, you can take the 300-metre hike to the top of Red Mountain volcano, and enjoy breathtaking views of Lanzarote and La Graciosa across the clear blue waters.
