My heart is itching for adventure. It’s aching for long open roads, miles of mossy green forests and uphill treks across mountainsides. For crowded cities and secret escapes. Tranquil lakes and lazy blue skies. And I’m guessing, if you’re reading this, then your heart is too.
Today, I wanted to celebrate that wanderlust – that yearning for adventure, to experience. To see. To go. – And one way that I thought we could truly celebrate it was through a list of my Top 5 (make that 8 thanks to my indecisiveness!) Wanderlust Bucket List escapes. These are places I’m dreaming of. I’d love to know what’s on your wanderlust bucket list, too, if you want to comment below!
The Fairytale Trail, Germany
For those who don’t know, The Fairytale Trail is a route of towns and places that inspired the fairytales of the Brothers Grimm. This route includes tiny villages that based stories like Little Red Riding Hood and Snow White and beautiful cliff-side castles that inspired their works like Cinderella.
You need a vehicle to complete the route, as it spans through forests, countrysides and up into the mountains in total. I can only imagine the breathtaking photos you’d be able to get while exploring the expansive country of Germany on the trek through inspirations of the Brothers Grimm.
You can check out the official website dedicated to the route right here.
The Hawaiian Islands
Who doesn’t wish to go to Hawaii at some point, seriously?
Ever since I was tiny I’ve dreamt of the gorgeous islands. Staring with my inner wanderlust going wild at the gorgeous photos that people post of their adventures through the white sands, green forests and crystal blue shores.
An American Road Trip
A traditional American road trip. Renting a car and driving the coast of the United States has been another must-do on my list! During a holiday in Florida last year, my friends and I did rent a car, and drove all around the state to visit everything from Mickey Mouse to Manatees. (You can read about those adventures right here!)
Now I definitely have some wanderlust stored up to go back and explore the incredible coastline that makes America famous for road trips and cross-country adventures.
The Amalfi Coast, Italy
The Amalfi Coast is a gorgeous cliff-side region running along Italy through towns like Positano, Cetara, Amalfi, Sorrento and Africana. Picturesque in the best way, the coast features shoreside towns and cities looking over the expansive ocean, with blue seas and sun-drenched sands.
The region is also well-known for hiking, and features tonnes of incredible trails if you’re looking to get away from the coast and lost in the incredible Italian hills.
Swimming Pig Island in the Bahamas
The island of Pig Beach is another must-do on my wanderlust bucket list. In the Bahamas, the uninhabited island has become home to a colony of feral pigs that spend their days sunning on the sand and swimming in the crystal water.
The City of Tokyo, Japan
The city of Tokyo has been somewhere that I’ve always wanted to visit. Known for their innovation and integration of fast-moving technology, Tokyo is a city that I’ve always seen as somewhere on the move.
The 2020 Olympics are going to take place in Tokyo, and hopefully, I’ll be able to say that I’ve visited the incredible city before then!
The Island of Santorini, Greece
In the Aegean Sea, Santorini sits with an incredible landscape of rugged cliffs and white-washed buildings. One of the first facts I learnt about the island, was that it was the law for all buildings within a certain distance to be distinctly painted with the white and blue of Greece’s iconic flag.
To explore the beautiful towns, relax on the picturesque cliff-side and enjoy authentic greek yoghurt is something I’ve dreamt of for years.
The Country of Australia
Growing up glued to the TV watching shows like Neighbours (I still watch it to this day. Please don’t judge me.) I’ve always been enamoured by the sunny-skies of Australia and the accent (oh wow I love the accent). But growing up, and researching the country outside of Ramsay Street, I’ve seen Australia be an incredible places with landscapes drastically changing from place to place.
I’d love to visit the Great Barrier Reef, see the incredible Outback and meet a kangaroo, and a koala bear or two.
